HalfTribe Prologue

Excerpt from the private journals of Eli Renault, biologist, 1932:

“Since the time before man’s memory can extend, there has been a plague on humanity. This plague has taken humanity, and caused those infected to lose their humanity. These people, these beings, are the base of every nightmare, every dark myth, and every childhood horror all over the world. They exist in similar forms all over the earth, for all known and remembered time.
No one knows from where they come. The shadows whisper of an ancient evil that created these beings. Maybe it was the curse of some dark god upon the earth. Maybe it was some primitive experiment gone wrong. Maybe it was just a certain early virus, like the flu or Ebola. But how it came to being does not matter. All that matters is their form, their name today. They call themselves the Saved Ones. People like me call them the Cursed Tribe. They were given a more popular name by the masses. Vampire. It came from their tendency to drain the blood from human, and drink it. We thought they were the end of the infection.
Then in 1324, a new kind of infected were discovered. They seem to come from the cursed women that are infected while they are pregnant. It seems that the infection only partly overtakes the biology of these unborn children, causing partial infection. They are truly a unique breed, neither fully human nor cursed. They exhibit various strengths of the cursed, while only mild weaknesses. Being neither human nor cursed, they were rejected by both. Now they live on the run, running from hunters on both sides, while hunting for their own needs. Fortunately they do not need human blood. They need the blood of the cursed.
I do not know whether they have been sent from heaven or from hell. Most of these Half-Cursed are terrors, evil demonic people always thirsting for the blood of their creators. They kill randomly, recklessly looking for the Cursed, for their lifeblood. We must be ready for anything from them.”
